Yellotron MK-II

A Revamped Mellotron for the 201!

Here’s how to use it:

Envelope knob: Left of noon is fast attack, right of noon is slow attack. Noon is long release, sides are short release.

Tone knob: Select from 5 banks of sounds: Flute, Violin, Cello, Accordion, and Randomizer. All changes to this knob are quantized to the 201’s master tempo.

Surprise knob: Speed (0x – 2x)

The samples used in this patch were obtained for free at http://www.leisureland.us/mellotron.htm
Within Yellotron, each bank of samples is located in its own numbered subfolder. The individual samples are named according to their note (A#3, B3, C4, etc.). Users are encouraged to swap out these .wav files for other mellotron sample sets found at the aforementioned website as they see fit.

This patch is based heavily on spectral_julian’s ORACtron orac patch,
https://patchstorage.com/oractron/

which is in turn based upon callmesam’s Mellowtron organelle patch,
https://patchstorage.com/mellowtron-rework/

which is in turn based upon Pierre Massat’s Yellotron pd patch,

Yellotron : a mellotron with Pure Data

It also uses elements of Topaz1 + Compaq2 by Critter and Guitari.
https://patchstorage.com/topaz1-compac2/

This is a RAM-intensive patch (!) so anticipate increased boot-up time and less space for presets/saved sequences/samples. A lighter version of Yellotron which only loads one bank of samples and replaces the bank selector with a warble effect is also included. To use this version, delete the file named “module.pd”. Then duplicate the file named “module-single bank.pd” and rename the copy “module.pd”. The 201 will now load the less intensive version. To switch back, repeat the process with the file named “module-multi bank.pd”.

CHANGELOG

1.1: bank changes now only trigger if selecting a different bank, was previously causing crashes at high tempo settings. Also tweaked sampler behavior to avoid clicking when triggering many notes with long decay quickly.

1.0: stable release

hi! thank you for this amazing patch! I’m just having an issue with the single bank module, when loaded as indicated, the bank selector knob stays the same but only plays bank 1, no warble effect. any idea why that is? also how hard would it be to switch out the speed function of the surprise knob for something else, an effect for example? (i love the functionality, i’m just worried about accidents in a live setting).
    Thank you!!!

i also tried to replace one of the sample banks with my own and that caused the 201 to bug out, no sound or light activity. do you know why that would be? (all samples were 16bit, 44.1khz, wav files).
Sorry i’m new to pure data and i am looking to create a simple sample based patch.
