Using three burst generators for the core sounds of a machine jam. The XOR’s burst mod
ule plays Autodafe’s drums, Repelzen’s Re-burst plays the Macro Oscillator, and countm
odula’s Burst Generator controls a Southpole Annuli module in Disastrous Peace mode.
The bass part is controlled by Skrylar’s ALAN Turing sequencer. (In truth, the part is
controlled by the Volts and Pulses expanders for ALAN.) The bass instrument is made f
rom a Squinky Labs Functional VCO with a Fundamental VCA and a Bogaudio EG. The bass l
ine is fed through an mscHack compressor for more punch.
Extensive use has been made of the uMap module from the stoermelder plugin. I’ve deployed it here not only for continuous parameter control, I’ve also used it for switching purposes. Attaching a uMap module to a square wave (with or without PWM) allows control of switches that otherwise require manual intervention.
The following modules have been used for this patch:
Impromptu Modular – Clocked
SynthKit – Clock Divider
RJModules – Button
HetrickCV – Random Gates
Stoermelder Packone – uMap, MIDI-Cat
The XOR – burst
Autodafe – Drum Kit, 1×8 Multi
Squinky Labs – Mixer8, Functional VCO
Frozen Wasteland – BPM LFO
VCV – 8vert, VCA-1, Notes, Mixer, Audio-8
Skrylar – ALAN, Pulses, Volts
Repelzen – Re-Burst
Audible Instruments – Macro Oscillator
Bogaudio – ADSR, DGate
JW-Modules – Quantizer
wiqid – Dual Attenuverter
mscHack – Compressor
count modula – Burst Generator
Southpole – Annuli
NYSTHI – Mverb
All plugins used are available freely and with source code, with the exception of the NYSTHI reverb which is closed-source but freely available. Immense thanks to the developers of these and all other plugins for the mighty VCV Rack. Thanks also to the marvelous community of Rack users, and another deep bow from the waist to Andrew Belt for creating such a wonderful instrument as VCV Rack.
