Trip the light — generative patch from my Dec. 18th livestream

Part of the challenge I set for myself with this patch was creating space/ambience/atmosphere without resorting to reverb. So, there’s no reverb in the patch, but there is a ton of delays and panning.

**This patch requires firmware 2.60 to function properly**

Voice 1 is an self-FM’d (feedback) sine oscillator, which flutters through pitches because one of the two envelopes used to control its VCA also passes through the quantizer determining its pitch.

Voice 2 is made of two triangle wave oscillators (with duty cycle modulation) that shift between pitches somewhat randomly; oscillator two always has a specific interval relationship to oscillator 1, but this also changes.

Voice 3 is a sub/arpeggio, again a FM’d sine wave, now low-pass filtered, too. It sort of shifts into and out of prominence due to the modulation of its filter and the depth of the arpeggio (really just an LFO directed at its quantizer).

There is a simple mixer for the voices on the first page. I was always toying with this, so I ended up just making a way to adjust the proportion of each voice at will.

I do these livestreams at ungodly early hours on Saturdays (usually beginning around 8:30 AM US Eastern), if you ever want to stop in.
