The harmonics of two Chebyshev modules are set to full strength then driven by two gate sequencers, resulting in a pleasant rhythmic pinging of their frequencies. Other parameters of the Chebyshev modules are modulated further by a v/Oct generator, a clock-sync’d LFO, the gate sequencers, and an internally-applied envelope generator. At the mixer level the Chebyshev outputs are spread across four channels. All are processed with a global reverb, with two channels further processed by unequal delay lines. As a final “effect” the Chebyshev channels have their Mute status toggled randomly, quickly, and continuously.
Two basic oscillator modules provide a chordal accompaniment instrument and a bass player. The chord player’s input comes from a chord progression generator which is programmed to create a series of four chords selected and performed pseudo-randomly. The chord player output is processed by the global reverb and global chorus. A separate cable from its output is routed through a severely modulated formants filter. The filter’s vowel sounds are swept by an LFO, while its center frequency, resonance (Q), and brightness values are determined by a quickly moving sequencer. In comparison, the bass instrument is a simple design. It plays a single note with rhythmic variety provided by the sequencer’s gate generator.
As usual, I’ve made good use of the Stoermelder 8Face and uMap modules. The one provides the capability to sequence presets for any indicated module, the other provides a means for parameter control where no control inputs are found. Very valuable modules for creating a wide variety of sounds from a small selection of basic modules.
