I wrote this patch in response to u/wswatson’s post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ZOIA/comments/tb5hop/trying_to_recreate_herbie_hancocks_synthbass/
You can find a pretty thorough breakdown of the patch in the comments of that post.
The only major difference is that I placed a low-pass filter between the audio input and the pitch detector/onset detector, because I was getting some string noise miscues.
There are some minor changes — me tweaking to try and get it sounding more accurate (that’s sort of an endless rabbithole, I think). I also switched the overdrive to a germ drive, although I’m not sure that makes a ton of difference.
The first page is the audio input and analysis modules — pitch detector and quantizer, onset detector and ADSR (with multiplier to attenuate the envelope amount sent to the filters).
The second page is the audio signal path. At the top are two value modules. One is used to transpose the oscillator down an octave; the other is used to adjust the resonance of the filters (careful with this one).
I don’t know as this ‘nails’ the sound, but it’s 80-90% there and a good foundation for further exploration/refinement, I think.
No demo at the moment; maybe later.

Really cool work. Thanks for sharing such a detailed breakdown.
