Aziz Ege Gonul’s fantastic DX7 emulation in Supercollider with 16 voices and stereo reverb
April 2025: subtle update to docs below! To open the patch menu and switch apps you long press the encoder on the main screen WITHOUT pressing the aux button. The exit option in the save menu just exits back to the main experience.
UPDATES in version 1.1:
* Stereo reverb added
* Polyphony setting moved to bottom of save menu
* Save menu navigation improvements
* Velocity param is now an offset that affects both internal and MIDI input
FEATURES:
* 16-voice DX7 FM synth emulation with 16,384 real DX7 presets from across the internet
* Presets are very wide ranging in quality and can have large timbral variation based on note velocity
* Lush stereo reverb with a simple one-knob interface
* Monophonic mode
* Organelle pedal input support for sustain pedal
* MIDI input for notes (including velocity), sustain pedal, pitchbend with configurable range, and mod depth
* MIDI configuration is as simple as plugging in your usb of 3.5mm TRS midi device and relaunching the patch
* Save presets that you like to your own curated list, persisted for next time you open the patch
* Long press the encoder button on the main screen to return to Organelle home menu and switch apps
Install:
Normal Organelle installation this time- no special supercollider dance necessary. Installation can take up to 10-20 minutes, be patient :). Upload .zop file via web server or sd/usbcard to the patch folder of your choice and then launch the installer from the organelle itself. No internet/wifi connection is required to install.

Awesome, thank you so much
What a treasure trove! Thanks!
fab work dessertplanet!:)
big thank you.
looking fwd for your supercollider surprises that you’ll bring.
v1.01 released! Now Wi-Fi/internet is NOT required to install this patch.
Furthermore, if that was what was blocking you from installing Icarus ( https://patchstorage.com/icarus/ ) then you can install this first, then install icarus without internet.
I’ve released version 1.02 with an important bug fix.
I heard that certain presets were causing the patch to crackle and lock-up- I figured out that presets that have long release time weren’t counting against my 16-voice cap which was causing voices to accumulate until the CPU couldn’t handle it. Fixed!
thanks for the update!
any chance for a lite on cpu yet decent sounding reverb
added on this!?
would be great if possible…
I was thinking about putting a reverb on there… cpu wise would be possible but I couldn’t sort out an experience that would make sense. If you have any ideas I would love them. I figure for verb we would minimally want a mix control and a decay control? I would want to add it without any additional menu-diving.
I’ve released v1.1 now with a stereo reverb added among other improvements
Hello dessertplanet!
First off I want to thank you for all time and love you must of used to create this awesome looking patch.
By the sounds of it I believe you maybe the answer to my dreams.
The only catch is every time i try to load it onto my organelle is says ‘jackd install failed … deploy failed’!
I wonder if you can help as I’m uploading the patch as I would any others as you have said.
All the best and I hope to hear from you soon,
Sarah
P.s. Merry Christmas!
Hi Sarah! Merry Christmas. Happy to help get you unblocked.
A couple things to check- what version of Organelle are you using and what OS version? This is available in System/Info I believe.
Also, what process are you using to upload the patch? Web server? Manual sdcard stuff? USB drive?
Hello! sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you but in all honesty i didn’t think you’d get back so thank you!
I have an organelle M and a up to date mac and have been trying to upload it over wifi as i usual do with patches, i uploaded a few all at once and this one didn’t work but the rest did!
all the best,
sarah
Hi Sarah,
Cool ok, in that case a couple things to try- first, try installing my other supercollider patch called Icarus here: https://patchstorage.com/icarus/
That one uses an online installation for jackd which may get around your problem. It requires an internet connection to install but that doesn’t sound like it’s a problem.
If that fails I would see if it’s a disk space issue- try installing a different patch (preferably a complex one) and see if that is working.
Beyond that we will need to result to ssh and watching the output from the install commands in deploy.sh
I feel like I should be able to figure this out, but is there a way to exit out of this patch?
Thank you for creating it, there’s so much to explore!
Yep @okayokay you press the aux button and then long-press the encoder (clicky-pressy-knob)
(Both at the same time)
Actually I think it might be short press! Apologies for the confusion
i love your work! thank you so much.
although i can’t seem to exit the app, when i go to the patch menu and select “EXIT” nothing happens.. !
Apologies for the confusion above- I can’t seem to update or delete those and I wasn’t at my organelle to test.
To bring up the Organelle home menu and switch apps you just long press the clicky encoder on the main screen WITHOUT pressing the aux button :)
