Zoia + MIDI Controller PATCH NAVIGATION SYSTEM

–Zoia + BOSS ES-5 Patch Navigation System–

Rough Demo: https://youtu.be/4JdqvF9jppk?si=Mx42PgNS1z1I14y-

I made these series of patches to jump to specific patches in a live setting using my Zoia and my BOSS ES-5 FX Switching System.

With some modification, this system of patches I’ve created might work with other switching systems beyond the BOSS ES-5/8 series. However, I’m not certain as I haven’t used an Effects Switching System / MIDI Foot Controller beyond the BOSS ES-5

That being said, this system serves as an example of how one might create a series of patches that will enable a Foot Controller and the ZOIA to jump through presets in a live setting.

The patch uses the MIDI functionality of both pedals, to send a receive messages between the two and navigate amongst presets on both systems simultaneously. With this series of navigation patches, on both systems, I can navigate through up to 100 patches/presets on the BOSS ES-5 and 59 Presets on the ZOIA.*

* The system uses 5 “Nav. Patches” on the zoia – assigned as 000 – 004, leaving 005 – 063 open in your ZOIA library for 59 other patches.

The ZOIA stompswitches control the navigation between the BOSS ES-5’s Groups and Banks, and the BOSS ES-5 is used to select 1 of 4 presets using it’s Foot Switches.

Once set up, you assign the PC command that corresponds to your desired ZOIA patch # using the ES-5’s “PATCH –> Patch MIDI #” function. Once the aforementioned PC Command is set up, within the patch, leaving one assign dedicated to returning to the “Patch Nav. System Page” you are free to use the remaining 7 assigns of the ES-5, and the ZOIA Stomp Switches as you wish to control parameters within the ZOIA Preset.

Admittedly, I find it difficult to explain the process, so if anybody has any questions, please leave a comment here, or DM me and I’ll try to elaborate further.

Now, as for using this system with another MIDI Foot Controller. I imagine most Controllers are at least somewhat similar in their assigns. You would need to identify using the controllers PC Map, which PC message corresponds to which patch #, and adjust the MIDI PC sends on the ZOIA patches (Page 5 in the ZOIA Nav. Patches) in relation to your desired patch number on your controller.

I suspect the biggest obstacle might be adapting my patch from using GROUPs, and BANK’s for navigation – following the Patch structuring on the ES-5 – to match and work with the different Patch Organization that is present in your device.

IF You have an ES-5 or ES-8 though, using this system should be as simple as importing my provided “ES-5navBlank.bel” file into the editor program, and uploading into your ZOIA; Nav. Patch 1 – 5 in the first 5 patches of your given library.

I apologize if this is all confusing. Within the ZIP file I have an extensive guide / write up which may serve as a resource to make sense of this system I have created. Further here is a brief (and pooooorly edited) video where I demonstrate how it functions, and provide a visual representation of what this creation is setting out to accomplish.

TLDR;

– Patch Navigation between Boss ES-5 and ZOIA (MIDI)

– ES-5 Library “.bel” file provided for import into the ES-5 Editor Ap.

– Read the Manual / Guide ~ .txt document.

– Again, Watch this video for a quick demo of what this system can do.

I’m more than happy to help with any questions you might have, or explain my thought process further.

If you like what you see, and want to modify it for use with another controller, I might be able to provide some insight to make it happen.

OVERALL – this was all designed with the BOSS ES-5 and the ZOIA in mind. As such, again!, I couldn’t really say how much modification is needed to adapt it to other MIDI devices.

I’ve used it live, and it worked perfectly.

*** note***

I intended to be able to switch banks and groups with the press of one button. For stability I had to make some compromises in it’s operation in regards to switching Groups. I go into further detail in the Txt. Document. If I figure out how to solve this issue, I’ll be sure to upload the fix/update!

**Lastly** Let me know if there’s any issues, or potential bugs etc.
