Z-DRUM X-IN FM/DIRT (drum synthesizer)

This is 2 new versions of Z-DRUM where instead of sequencing itself, it is meant to be triggered and controlled by an external sequencer (one that can send midi CC’s is better).

The first version of the patch is more FM focused with both the kick and snare having 2 oscillators and FM features, and the second version has distortion on the kick instead of 2 oscillators/FM, but the snare still has FM.

The way it is set up by default is with 3 “midi note in” modules each set to CHANNEL 1, and each of them have been set to only recieve one midi note. What I mean by that is: the kick midi note module “high note” and “low note” settings are both set to note “60”. So only note 60 will trigger the kick. Same for the snare and hi hat.

Kick is note 60
Snare is note 61
HH is note 62

If you’re wondering why the patch isn’t responding to you pounding on the midi controller keys this is why ^^^

This can be easily changed by going into the midi note module settings on page 4 and changing the numbers around.

All kick parameters are on page one, all snare parameters are page 2, and all HH parameters are page 3.

If you’d like to adjust the routing by having certain drums going out of specific outputs that will be done on the 5th page by adjusting the connections from the modules on the left to the audio output module on the right.

Master volume control is on the bottom right of the snare page with a magenta color.

In order to assign external midi CC’s to control various parameters you’ll need to make sure the global star CC setting is set to the channel you need. Then you need to select the parameters you want one by one and hit shift+*(star). When all the parameters you want are starred, press the back button and hit shift+star two times. Press STOP on the external sequencer if it is currently sending midi CCs so it doesnt accidentally assign a different CC number. Select one parameter on the list at a time, press down the encoder, turn the encoder one click to the left so it says LEARN, and the next midi CC that is sent to Zoia will be assigned to that parameter. Repeat the assigning process until all your desired parameters are setup.

Disclaimer: unfortunately every so often zoia will miss a midi trigger, or midi cc. I don’t believe anything can be done about this. Not sure why it happens, but it’s not just these patches.

Also, when sequencing the notes you’ll want to set the note lengths on the sequencer as short as possible so the gates aren’t left open while it’s supposed to be receiving the next note.

Hope you enjoy it!
