Wind Study

My recreation of a windy day!

A little over a week ago, I sat in the hammock in my dad’s backyard and listened to the wind for about an hour straight. It occurred to me that there were many layers of sound rather than just one pad of subtle white noise. I listened intently to try to pick out each layer I heard, and later on in the week I applied what I heard to this patch for the ZOIA!

There are three layers:
The base layer is a soft and quiet band-pass filtered noise drone, with a couple of LFO’s that make the filter cutoff ebb and flow. To make it more distant and to further soften the sound, it goes through stereo reverb that is set 100% wet.
The next layer is the most complex, as it is a higher intensity wind gust that starts from the left and moves to the right. It’s got a very similar signal path as the base layer, except there’s two of them for left and right (and the reverb is more subdued). Two attack/hold/decay envelopes control the effect of the movement, and there are some random logic circuits that vary timing in between gusts as well as when a gust occurs automatically (sometimes it’s stubborn so you can activate a gust manually like I did).
The last layer represents the aspen grove directly to my right, the most present layer in the mix. Again, very similar signal path (barely a touch of verb), and it is faintly controlled by the LFO’s in the base layer, and it also activates with the wind gusts.

Do whatever you want with it, but it'd be cool if you shared with me what you do if anything!
