Doubles the output of the xpr pedal. My M audio only outputs .5 CV for some reason, turn this off if your expr. Pedal outputs CV of 1
This patch uses the guitar signal into a single pitch shifter set to +1 octave, in parallel with 2 oscillators; set to +1 octave and +2 octaves. When distortion is engaged, the synths are also fed into a fuzz module.
A clean signal is layered in when pedal is rocked forward.
Page 2 – balance modules
The purple one balances between the synths (1/2 octaves). The blue one balances synth blend with guitar. Lastly the green module balances the dry signal with the mix. Can be adjusted with pink value module on the same page. 0-50%. I find this helps add definition when playing with distortion.
Also as I’m feeding the guitar signal into a low pass filter, I built in a bypass audio switch before the filters as not to effect the tone when the effect isnt in use. Further, to save dsp, i placed a similar function before the pitch detector as not to have the detector constantly using CPU when not needed. I use slew limiters to make the transition in as seemless as possible.
This patch also responds in an interesting manner when engaging the whammy effect with a chord. I was using this to create some sharp dissonant effects, akin to using minor 2nds etc. in a breakdown, or something along the lines of some the whammy effects heard in the Fall of Troy track – dirty pillow talk. While doing so, you have to be very precise with the timing of the expression pedal as the pitch detector and shifters in the zoia seem to react to chords differently depending on when and how you travel from min to max.
That being said, It’s designed to be used when playing only an individual note, and this effect I’m describing was reliant on the heavy gain of my metal muff.
Also worth noting, there’s some parameters that can be adjusted to dial in the sound. Having only just finished this minutes ago, it’s entirely possible it has the potential to get even better sounds out of it.
I’ve been finding setting the green “wet dry mix” very low, or off.. sounds better. Additionally, I have little experience with synthesis, so theres likely room for improvement in adjusting the LFO’s and the sv filters in the Oscillator/ synth chains. The intent is use the synths to add texture and the 2nd octave.
Lastly, I incorporate the loop for a gain pedal as my modeling amp didnt respond well to the patch using the amp’s distortion models. Its entirely possible this might just be my how my particular amp responds. If the clean setting responds well for you, and there’s interest. I can throw together a variant of this patch with the loop removed. Alternatively, you could remove the audio output and input modules, and place a gain module in their place. If DSP is maxing, you could remove the various value modules to adjust parameters throughout the patch and make adjustments directly.
In the demo video I’m using an EH pocket metal muff with LVL @ 1:30, and gain @ 12. No scoop
