Made as part of the vcp challenge #76: one voice.
My idea with this patch was to create a functioning drum machine using only one sound source. Plaits has several oscillator models including an analog bass drum, analog snare and analog hihat and stoermelder’s 8FACE allows you to switch instantly between saved presets on modules. So I made two kick presets, two snares and an open and closed hihat and saved them in a linear drum pattern on 8FACE.
Is it the perfect drum machine? No.
Would it sound better with a VCO dedicated to each drum? Probably.
But does it work? Yes.
Once again, it’s a real joy to experiment and discover just how much can be achieved with a single voice. It’s chaotic, psychedelic and all the noise being diffused by Plateu’s reverb ends up sounding almost like rain.
I hope you enjoy.

As someone who has been into VCV rack for about a year or so, one of the main issues is when browsing patches like this or downloading patches from tutorials is the number of modules I have accumulated that I have no clue as to how they work, let alone how deep some of them can go. I currently have 1480 in my library.
Today I discovered what a wildly useful module the 8FACE is for compositions!
TYVM!
I’m in a similar position, it’s really easy to get overwhelmed isn’t it! I’m glad I could help shed some light on 8FACE and I wish you luck using it in future compositions :)
