taking a little dive down into the vult! lately am trying to do loose patch sketches(skatches?) that focus in on one or two brands at a time… to help me really get to know their nuances and sound thumbprints. and so out of this mornings skatch, comes some generativeish dub beat business similar to that original deadbeat sound i grew up with. its not a great sounding thing, but then again sketches aren’t supposed to be great – more like exercises to help one learn something. anyway some really nice saturations in these vult ones. am barely scratching the surface with this brand so more vult experiments to come…

some interesting finds from this morning’s skatch sesh:

1 – started out with just beats since vult has great modules for drums. but felt like the piece needed a good drone. something about beats and drones. the busy and the slow that can really compliment each other nicely. so i borrowed a row from one of my other patches i made ages ago (the bottom row in this one). thank god for strip module – with it’s copy/paste functions (and also its random button!). you can easily move a row from one patch to another (just copy a row with strip, open up a new patch, make a strip module, then right click that and select paste. viola you’ve moved a row from one patch to another super easy.

2 – love putting a glissanator in the chain after the remove module – to smooth out any choppy curves in there. some have said that remove is “cheating too much” – as those modular purists who wish to build patches that are in line with a real physical modular would thing/say. fair enough. but i say who cares! its great to be able to add extra knob movements where otherwise there is no cv… the more unpredictable motion in a patch, the better it sounds…

3 – dust, used as an audio sources, makes some great lo fi vinyl sounds.

4 – really loving the mindmeld mixer as its knobs/faders have smoothers built into them so that you can do crazy modulations and they never sound clicky.. always smooooooth.
