Trempanum

A stereo tremolo and panning workhorse with some tricks up its sleeve.

This is a personal favorite, probably my most used patch, tweaked and optimized for more than a year, so definitely proud to share it here. It does tremolo in full stereo with a bunch of different LFO shapes, but what makes it unique is that the Left and Right LFO can be offset in phase, creating 3D stereo panning effects.
There’s also a pitch-shifter that is opposite in phase with the normal sound, so you can bounce between pitched-up and normal sounds.
Finally, the Envelope follower offers interesting Rate or Depth modulation, and the controls are well suited for live experimentation, with dedicated “depth-up” and “depth-down” pushbuttons (for easy on-the-fly changes).
It can do many things, from random intermittent “faulty cable” sputtering to hard choppy quasi-ring mod tremolo to sea-sickening ping-pong panning effects.

[OVERVIEW]
-Input/Output: Stereo in/Stereo out (or Mono in/Stereo out).
-CPU load: Around 95%
-Version: v3.6.0 is the latest version of this patch
-Build: Updated with firmware 1.13
-MIDI: Controls are set to CCs (I use channels 21/36, see CONROLS section for details).

[PATCH STRUCTURE]
The audio path is pretty straightforward; stereo input into two audio panner modules (I only use one of the outputs, so it’s used like a VCA, but the response curve seemed more suitable). There’s also a pitch shifter that’s going into another set of panner modules. Everything else in the patch just serves to create the CV signals that modulate the panner modules. The pitch-shifted and regular outputs are opposite of each other, so the pitch-shifted signal lonly sounds when the regular is muted (and, consequently, is proportional to the Depth control).

There is a page full of LFOs, with sine, square, ramp and sawtooth, and a random module, all arranged in pairs so that the phase difference can be increased from 0 to 180 degrees.
The LFOs can be synced with MIDI CLOCK IN, if that’s enabled (via toggle button on PAGE1), the RATE control controls a clock divider.

There is a dedicated page for the Depth control. It has a fast (10Hz?) LFO to trigger a Sample&Hold, which feeds back into itself, and the DEPTH UP and DEPTH DOWN buttons are basically a small positive and small negative value also going into that S&H. If a DEPTH UP/DOWN button is pressed or held, the S&H will increment gradually.
The MIDI CC IN module for the Depth control goes into a complicated structure with two comparators and some switches, all to make the depth controls co-exist with the pushbuttons; depth can be changed via CC or on-board buttons, and whichever value is used last is counted.

The envelope follower page has controls for Depth and Rate modulation. If the ENV value (for DEPTH or RATE) is negative, the Depth and Rate settings behave as usual but the envelope signal is subtracted. But, if the ENV value goes positive (it flips with a comparator), the Depth and Rate are minimal and only become high when the envelope signal increases them (so note the change in behavior at -0.001 and 0.001).

[CONTROLS]
All the main controls are on PAGE0 and PAGE1 and are labeled and starred (see below for a “Picture Manual” in the comments). The Stereo Output module with gain parameter is on PAGE2.

On PAGE0, the top row is indicators; the wider the LEDs light up, the higher the depth of the effect.

RATE (rate of the LFO; when MIDI Clock is enabled this becomes a clock divider; cc21)
PHASE (phase offset between L and R offset; cc22)
DEPTH UP/DOWN (pushbuttons to increase/decrease depth; controls on left and right side are duplicates, they do the same; cc24)
PITCH MIX (balance between regular and pitch shifted level; cc23)
PITCH ENABLE (toggles pitch shift on/off)
ENV SPEED (amount that the envelope follower affects rate; positive or negative; cc25)
ENV SPEED ENABLE (toggles rate modulation)
ENV DEPTH (amount that envelope follower affects depth; positive or negative; cc26)
END DEPTH ENABLE (toggles depth modulation)

On PAGE1 there is on option to enable MIDI Clock, and there are two rows of options:
LFO SHAPE (Sine, Fall, Rise, Square, L->R, R->L, Random)
PITCH MODE (+7, +12, +19, +24 semitones)

LEFT stomp = Momentary pan 100% left.
MID stomp = Momentary max depth.
RIGHT stomp = Momentary pan 100% right.

[TIPS/TRICKS]
>>> Smooth tremolo; select Sine LFO shape, disable PITCH and ENV toggles, set PHASE to 0 and set RATE and DEPTH to taste.

>>> Smooth panning; same as previous, but turn PHASE to 1.

>>> Shimmer trem; same as previous but enable and turn up PITCH LVL.

>>> Choppy envelope; select Fall LFO shape, enable ENV toggles and give ENV DEPTH a slightly negative value and ENV RATE a higher positive (so it gets almost into Ring-Mod territory), set RATE and DEPTH high.

>>> “Faulty cable” stutter; select Random LFO shape, turn ENV DEPTH fully up and set rest to taste.

[THOUGHTS/IDEAS/PLANS]
This patch is constantly evolving, since I use this one all the time, but I don’t have any planned features/changes for it right now.

If there’s any bugs/questions/remarks/requests or suggestions for improvement, please let me know!
Enjoy!
