*EDIT: added simple midi input to the oscillator to make it possible to sequence/play in a somewhat musical manner ( but not really)
Also added a beautiful version with custom faceplate by the infinitely talented, init-crioxica! The synth is the same but it’s nicer looking!!!*
The Vertical Plane is a feedback/drone based instrument based on the signal flow of Synthux.academy’s amazing Audrey II synth. It’s an unruly, chaotic instrument that can make drones, screeches roars and could be useful for sampling, or making dark or haunting music.
It’s not a one to one copy, as I don’t own an Audrey II and I havent and can’t read the source code, so it’s based on descriptions of signal flow and watching some youtube demonstrations. But I think it’s a fun noisemaker. I coudn’t find exact matching copies of modules, so I replaced the karplus strong with Audible Instrument’s resonator and the tape delay with a BBD.
It’s a simple patch using the new Control Panel feature for use as an Auv 3 instrument ( or standalone).
The controls are more or less similar to Audrey II but I’ll explain a little here… Be aware that as it relies heavily on feedback you may get wild and unexpected results.
If you have ideas to make it better, please feel free to change it and upload your patch, as I said I’m no expert and probably have made errors in the patching.
Controls:
input: crossfades between white noise and pure feedback
Oscillator: Changes the pitch of the resonant oscillator
Structure: changes the timbre of the resonator
Low pass and high pass and their respective resonance controls: are filters
Reverb: wet and dry control of the reverb
Bloom: changes the size of the reverb, which alters the character of the sound
Distortion: adds wavefolding
Output: adjusts the level BEFORE the delay.
Time: length of delay
wet: wet/ dry value of delay
repeat: delay feedback
!!: switches to the lofi circuit of the delay.
If you double tap on the control panel you can randomise the knobs to get some crazy sounds.
It looks a bit spartan, I wanted to change the background but that doesn’t seem to work for me, the sound can get wild though.

Thank you! Great patch and sounding!
