This the latest release of my Synth Drums patch. Things are cleaned up a lot and a lot of the MIDI mapping of the input modules is done.
There are 8 voices to this drum machine that is currently made to be played with pads on MIDI controllers.
The voices are mainly based on the idea of cross modulation of a pair of VCO’s after being inspired by seeing a tutorial on YouTube. I include some experiments of my own based on what I already know but each voice has its base in that concept.
Controllers are mapped as follows:
Controller 1: Notes A-1 to E0.
CCs 16 to 33. Starts at 16 on fader for CH1 to 24 for Master and 25 for knob labeled Pan 1 to 33 for the last knob.
Controller 2 (a Yamaha FGDP-30): C2, C#2, G3, E2, C3, B2, G1, and D2
Controller 3: Korg nanoKontrol2
Only using the faders, knobs and buttons for channels 1 to 8, none of the other buttons in current state. The faders start at CC34 on channel 1 and go to CC41 for channel 8. Knobs are CC42 to CC49. The S, M, and R buttons are CC numbered starting at R, channel 1 as CC50, M is CC51, and S is CC52. They go up that way in order as just provided up to channel 8. I do not have the buttons implemented yet but I have a plan for Voice 8 for multiple CV’s past the current 4 set for that voice using the buttons to switch over.
Controller 1, a Keylab Essentials 88, is set up for the faders and knobs to have pairs of each controlling each of the voices 1 to 4. The last column has the Keylab extra knob and fader setup to control the amount of each VCO of Voice 4 that is sent to the FM CV input of the paired oscillator.
In case you are wondering about Controller 2, Yamaha has their documentation for this drum machine (I am using as a MIDI controller) for their pads an octave lower than what is showing up on my MIDI Monitor app. So, I had to map them an octave up. And the strange order is due to the way the FGDP-30 is layed out. I started with what is the first pad on Controller 1 as the bass drum sort of sound. That is the large pad at the bottom of the FGDP-30. Then I went left and right to the other pads and moved up the middle and spread out from the centre. It worked for me at the time. Have a look at the drum machine and you should be able to understand. But it is a file you can edit so feel free to do that.
Controller 3, Korg nanoKontrol2
These are currently set up in a similar way to the Keylab. Starting with channel 1 and 2, that pair is controlling Voice 5. The faders control the Attack and Decay of the AD envelope that controls the VCA level of the input(s) for Voice 5. Knobs for channels 1 and 2 control the V/Oct for their respective oscillators.
Actually, I did not state it above, but that is the way Controller 1, the Keylab, is set up too, regarding faders and knobs.
Current settings give different sounds and that is what I was going for. It is easy to edit the patch during playing if you have things handy. Once hand playing the pads and the other editing controls if you want.
Each voice is mainly generally contained within the labels provided by the TD-202 modules. There are some exceptions to that but those are mostly labeled as well. I left some space for future additions as moving modules around in miRack is a little more work that other apps. As stated above, using those other buttons for CC’s is the next thing I plan to work towards. I might even implement a voice partial mute that involves the switch and math module to the right of the patch. That would go to an MSCHack mixer that allows for left and right channel inputs so you can input to the right channel only and then pan to the audio from the left side not being used. The MI mixer does not allow for that type of panning. I think a lot of those type of format do not.
