Some Phase

Was inspired to by the Dwarfcraft Ghost Fax! to try modulating the stages in a phaser. The patch is a couple of pages of all pass filters and a switch which controls how many stages the signal flows through. The switch is modulated by an LFO

Controls on first page. The LFO shapes are:
– Ramp
– Random
– Triangle
– Saw

Warning: if the LFO rate is cranked the patch will start to ‘sing’. The volume seemed stable when I tried it, but there’s always a chance that the right set of parameters might provoke it

I tried a similar thing in my (older) patch “Omniphase”, but if you change the nr of poles via the Audio Switch like you’re doing, it won’t “ping” like the Ghost Fax, no matter how high the resonance is. I was only able to get that ‘plinky’ sound of modulating the phaser stages by going into the SHIFT+EDIT menu of the all-pass filters and switching the nr of poles in there.

For this to work properly, we need the “nr of poles” accessible under CV control!

Thanks, have voted. It’s an odd variable not to have exposed, but I guess it matches the Empress Phaser where the stages aren’t exposed to midi either.
