How to ‘ping’ a phaser! Basically white noise into a VCA controlled by an ADSR with a tiny amount of decay, and the attack/sustain/release all on zero. This produces a short burst of noise which acts as an impulse, and with the resonance, feedback, depth and mix all turned up, it makes a percussive sound.
Sample and hold is modulating the phaser frequency instead of the internal LFO, and also the centre frequency.
TIP: Try pinging other filter types, and using random triggers. Also, use Stoermelder Strip module to copy the bottom row of modules and build up a tinkling effect like drops of water in a cave. You can also modulate both left/right channels of the phaser module independently, for a wide stereo sound.
