Simple Osmose Aftertouch Vibrato (Simple Preset Series)

Instructional Preset.
This preset shows how Y Aftertouch can be used for multiple functions on Osmose. Because Y = 0 before Aftertouch area, when you move into the Aftertouch you can add additional effects that do not take effect until then.

This preset adds a Shape Generator based sine shape frequency modulation (vibrato) to an oscillator, the width of which is controlled by Y. Since formula A that controls this uses a W multiplier on Y, no vibrato will kick in until Y is greater than 0 (you are in the Aftertouch area). Both Fixed and scaled vibrato are selectable with Macro Controls.

Note that Y is also used to increase vibrato speed in formula B controlling shape generator frequency from 3x a second to 7 times a second. So in the Aftertouch area as you press to bottom, your vibrato gets deeper and faster.

Y is also used to control the amount of phase modulation from OSC2 sent into OSC1 (the OSC you hear). So Y will also change timbre in the Aftertouch area.

Finally, as that timbre changes volume gets less and Z is already at max at Aftertouch, so Y is also used as an SL/SR output multiplier to increase volume in the Aftertouch area as well.

This is a very simple example, but all these kinds of techniques are used in Osmose presets.

Macro Controllers:
i = Timbre (Changes Spectral Balance of the Main Oscillator). Affects both Oscillators in parallel.

ii = FixedVib (This brings up the output of a fixed amount of Y induced frequency modulation offset). So this will add the same amount of frequency width for all X frequencies. Lower notes are affected more than higher ones to the ear.

iii = ScaledVib (This brings up the output of a scaled amount of Y induced frequency modulation so the vibrato width will scale to the frequency). Higher notes are affected more than lower ones to the ear.

iv = AddMod (This adds phase modulation from a second oscillator – amount controlled by Y to the max setting set by this control). So if this is set to min, Y will not add any modulation.

Surface:
X = Pitch
Y / Aftertouch = Increases Vibrato width. Increases Vibrato Speed. Adds increasing phase modulation (not too much) to the OSC and finally is used to amplify output in the Aftertouch area. Change Y range in formula D if you want to change the output amplification or remove Y value if you want unity SL/SR amplitude scaling.
Z = Volume
