Roland JX-8P – clone using free modules

My second venture into synth cloning in VCV was to try and recreate the Roland JX-8P. This seemingly simple task turned out to be far mor challenging than I expected and my clone is missing a few of the cross modulation features of the original. Besides this however I feel it is a pretty faithful recreation and sounds remarkably similar to the original, I used to own a Roland MKS70 (Super JX – two 8P’s stacked) so I know the synth pretty well.

I used the Valley Feline filter here because it seemed like it was a recreation of a the classic Roland filter in the SH101 and many others. I’m not actually sure if that is what it is trying to emulate but it sounded close to me and it certainly is going for that Roland look. Because the filter isn’t polyphonic I had to use eight of them, you could easily swap them out for another filter to make the patch a bit leaner.

Once again I have tried to emulate not just the sound but the look and feel of the instrument, I did this using the MindMeld PatchMaster modules.

I hope you enjoy using this synth, it was a bit of slog to get it right. If you have any suggestions for improvements or optimisations please let me know.

Thanks :)

Of course, I’m happy for people to play around with the synths, that’s why I uploaded them :)

    Thanks
