Polyphonic Synth Chords

Built after watching the ZOIA Bootcamp on Mono Synths I made this chord tracking synth that I absolutely adore.

The patch will hear any single note and play the 1st, major third, and fifth of the note it’s tracking (a major chord / triad), and if you hit the left footswitch the major third will switch to a minor / flat third so you can play minor chords.

Playing around with this it was quite fun to bounce between minor and major chords while tap dancing on the left switch. Brought me some new ideas on chord progressions! The left footswitch is just jumping between two oscillators set up for the separate notes relative to the note being played.

CONTROLS: The skeleton of this patch is based off of the Bootcamp video on synths and may be a helpful resource if you’re wanting to change something! That being said, I did take some creative liberties on values from the video.

SPACE SAVING: This patch can get pretty close to 100% CPU on it’s own, and if you wanted to save space, the bit crushers in this patch are actually at 0 bits (not in use), but I left them in on PG 4 as an option for something closer to retro video game sounds. As well on PG 3 there is a ghost reverb you could delete and route around if you’re not all about that either.

GUITAR: I’ve found this patch works better when notes are plucked with my thumb than with a pick. YMMV! Maybe I have the sensitivity on the Env Follower too high, but I’m not sure.

I really love this patch and hope you do too. Would love to hear how it works for you as well and happy patching. (:
