Playing around with VCV Rack and Open Stage Control (OSC) – a free piece of software which lets you create a custom control surface for your audio software, in this case VCV Rack. You can use your phone / tablet like a midi controller but with buttons, knobs etc. that you set up. Here I’m just playing around with different oscillators and filters.

As you can see, this patch is just an extension of the basic VCV 2 patch, which loads at startup, but using the 6 buttons you can switch to
– playing with a sequencer (Audible / Mutable Instruments Marbles) instead of your keyboard
– switch from the VCV VCO to the evenVCO or Plaits (x2 as we have to VCOs)
– switch from the Wavetable VCO to the Black Wavetable VCO by Erica Synths or Plaits in wavetable oscillator mode
– toggle between the different types of noise
– swap the stock filter to Tangents or the XFX F-35.

My aim was to make it easy to test out different combinations of oscillators and filters, and hear how they sound.
With the knobs you can control the filter cutoff and modulation parameters. Feel free to play around with them!
To set up the connection between VCV and OSC I used cvOSCcv by trowaSoft.
