Nord Drum 3P Editor

Editor for Nord Drum 3P hardware drum synthesizer.

# Features
– Control all Nord Drum 3P sound parameters via MIDI CC.
– Parameters are organized into collapsible sections for quick navigation: NOISE, CLICK, TONE, EQ, DIST, FX MASTER, LEVELS.
– Randomize parameters manually or automatically on every incoming note.
– Receive all sound parameters from the hardware for editing inside Drambo.
– Includes all 50 factory drum kits and Bank A sounds in Drambo MIDI Rack format.
– Comes with two demo projects: one standard, one with some randomization enabled.

# MIDI Configuration
You may need to adjust the MIDI input/output channels on each Drambo track to match your Nord Drum’s MIDI setup.

## Using the Editor with all 6 Nord Drum channels
– The Editor controls one Nord Drum channel (one drum/pad). To control all six pads, duplicate the Editor across six Drambo tracks, as shown in the demo projects.
– You can stack multiple Editors inside a single track and route MIDI manually, but this becomes difficult to use. A future Drambo Layers module with MIDI I/O would make this easier ;-)

## Note routing
– In the multitrack demo, all drum tracks receive notes from a single “LOOP” track. This lets you program your beat in one place.
– Alternatively, you can sequence each track independently. This allows for more variation, including polymeters.
– The ND3P INPUT module on each track filters a single note per drum and then sendsit to the correct Nord Drum MIDI channel.

## Sending parameters to the hardware
– Set each Editor track to the correct MIDI channel for your Nord Drum pads. _Example:_ pads 1–6 = MIDI channels 11–16.
– FX parameters (delay and reverb) are sent on the Global Channel. _Example:_ Global Channel = 10.

## Receiving parameters from the hardware
– Set the MIDI INPUT rack to your Nord Drum’s Global Channel (e.g., 10).

# Randomization
The randomization section has two modes:
## PER NOTE
Each incoming note triggers automatic randomization of selected parameters:
– ALL – randomizes all parameters
– NCT – Noise, Click, Tone
– FX – Delay and Reverb
– OFF – disables automatic randomization
– Other options follow the same logic

## MANUALLY
Randomizes parameters only when you press the button.

## Rand modulation knobs
Each parameter has a Rand modulation knob (left side). It controls the _range_ and _direction_ of randomization:
– Center (0 / 12 o’clock): no randomization
– Turned right: random values _above_ the current parameter value
– Turned left: random values _below_ the current parameter value
– Maximum range:
– Rand fully right + parameter knob at minimum
– or Rand fully left + parameter knob at maximum

## Parameters that randomize poorly
Some Nord Drum parameters require algorithm changes and do not update instantly (~50 ms, I think). These include:
– Tone Type
– Spectra Type
– Decay Mode
– Noise Type
– Click Type

You _can_ randomize them, but PER NOTE mode is usually too fast, resulting in inconsistent or poor sound.
You’ll notice this when manually randomizing one of these parameters: the first note after the change sounds different because the algorithm hasn’t fully switched yet.

# Sending Parameters to Nord Drum
– Moving any knob sends its MIDI CC value immediately to the Nord Drum.
– When receiving parameters from the hardware, CCs are not sent back automatically to avoid feedback loops.
– Use the SEND CC section to:
– verify that Drambo received all parameters correctly
– resend the full parameter set to another pad or kit

## Sending Parameters to Nord Drum
Use SEND CC section to send all sound parameters via MIDI CC to Nord Drum
– PER NOTE: sends all parameters automatically when the correct note is played
– MANUALLY: sends all CCs when you press the button

# Receiving Parameters from Nord Drum
To import factory or your custom sounds:
1. Set MODE to RECEIVE in the Editor.
2. Perform the following manual steps:
– Press each parameter button and move the Dial slightly up and down once.
– For lower parameters, hold SHIFT and repeat the process for all buttons.
– The Dial is detented, so you’ll feel a small “click” when turning it.
– This forces the Nord Drum to send the parameter value to Drambo. One by one. Yes, it takes a bit of clicking ;-)

Be careful with parameters already at their maximum or minimum:
– If you turn the knob up and nothing changes, then turn it down, Drambo will receive the _lower_ value.
– To restore the original value: up (no change) → down (lower value) → up (back to original). The same applies in reverse for minimum values.

# Delay and Reverb
– In Nord Drum, Delay and Reverb are global for all six pads in a kit.
– In the Editor, they are saved together with each drum sound because they significantly affect the overall character.
– Another reason is that this design might create interesting creatvie variations when you change parameters “PER NOTE”.

# Sounds and Config files
– The ZIP file contains MIDI Racks with all 300 sounds included in Bank A of Nord Drum.
– To install the sounds, copy content of “Sounds” folder to a new “Drambo/Presets/MIDI Rack/Nord Drum 3P Editor” folder on your device. This will allow you to browse and audition all the sounds from the MIDI Rack preset menu.
– “Configs” folder includes “ND3P INPUT” and “ND3P OUTPUT” MIDI Racks. They contain a couple of possible configurations of the MIDI Channels, but you can create different ones that match your Nord Drum MIDI configuration easily and save them to be reused.

Contact me if you want to contribute and create MIDI Racks for remaining factory banks.

Enjoy!
