Nintey Eight New H90 Boomer Toan Programs (11-2-24)

This new list of 98 (stereo insert mode) H90 programs is roughly organized as follows:

1 – 2 Blackface EQ (no amp sim)
3 – 10 SP2016 Rooms
11 – 12 Leslies
13 – 18 Slaps
19 – 30 Alt-Instruments
31 – 34 Reverse Delays
35 – 37 Wahs
38 – 48 Drives
49 – 60 Delays
61 – 67 Reverbs
68 – 72 80s Schmozone Tone
73 – 77 Pan/Trem
78 – 99 Other, including Lo-Fi
Modulation Throughout

This October 2024 list supersedes my prior master list. Since fresh ears, new algorithms, and more experience caused almost every program to mature or to be replaced, I removed the old list altogether. There is a whole new Lo-Fi section at the end of the list. I’m labeling this as a Work In Progress at least because about 20 programs need detailed developer notes and there probably are errors. Since life is likely to delay perfection several months, I decided to release this new/updated list warts and all.

While some programs do sound like Eventide fantasy ice castles, most are simple/vintage/bread-and-butter boomer toanz. Some are designed to provide useful options for a typical a boomer song without leaving the program (a clean sound with a touch of reverb, a boost, a delay, etc.). Others offer 3 or 4 variations on a single theme. And, of course, you can always bypass one of the presets and just use the other preset alone; sometimes less is more.

The first two programs are EQ’d to allow a guitar to run straight to a DAW, a mixing board, or a pair of headphones without an amp or an amp sim. These might be good for home practice and/or gig backups.

The H90 will drive headphones with a guitar alone if you turn the P Out Gain hotknob to +12dB. So I always set that as the first/left-most hotknob where it is always within reach.

My signal chain often includes a UAFX (I hate them) amp sim as a stereo insert, and a pair of headphones straight out of my H90. When I use overdrive, it’s often coming the amp sim or an analog stompbox (though the new Aggravate algo is great). Naturally, some programs may sound bad if you use another amp sim or no amp sim at all. Please expect to adjust to taste.

IF YOU HEAR NO SOUND, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU DON’T NORMALLY USE A STEREO INSERT AND/OR YOU HAVE NOT WIRED UP AT LEAST ONE INSERT DEVICE. BYPASSING THE INSERT (WITHIN “ROUTING”) WILL LIKELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Most programs were created using the middle toggle position of a Les Paul. But some programs definitely sound better using a different pickup. Please start with the middle toggle position and try others if that sounds like dog.

These programs use the hotswitches, an expression pedal, and aux switches #4, #5, and #6. Aux #4 is always a 5dB boost. Aux #5 and Aux #6 could be anything, but are always described in the developer notes. My expression pedal is globally linked to P Hotknob. So the P Hotknob functionality is intended to be expression pedal functionality.

I’ve learned from and incorporated so much material from innumerable gearheads to build/compile this list. Grateful attribution is provided where possible. Thank you all!

And, many thanks to the geniuses at Eventide. The H90 is an absurdly rich resource and powerful tool.

I am neither a boomer nor a toan hoar, but I do love me some collections of well-crafted patches (and an occasional double first person).

    Cheers!!
