“Minimalist” Patch – Marbles + Rings + Clouds

This is sort of a “minimalist” VCV Rack, similar to the 3 module challenges I’ve seen around. I’m sure many have been there during their modular journey. After getting somewhat familiar with VCV Rack it’s time to experiment with some of my favourite modules. Nothing special with the patching here, just trying to find settings where I find the sound pleasing.

Notes:

Marbles’ “Deja Vu” is set to around 10.30am (or pm?) to give us a slowly evolving pattern. It is quantized to minor scale. The t-section is only used to strum Rings. In the X-section, at the outset, spread is at 11am, increasing the probability that notes closer to a central one are played. Steps are at around 2 o’clock giving us all the notes from the minor scale, turning this up removes notes from the scale. Bias is at 2pm, turning this up or down we can play with the pitch, somewhat similarly to an offset, like I did in the previous patch. All these knobs are great to control the pitch of the evolving music.

Rings is in duophonic sympathetic strings mode. It is strummed by Marbles’ t1 trigger input and receives pitch information from x2 output. I have been really enjoying this simple combination, the strumming patterns produced can be quite nice.

Marbles is in classic granular mode, full wet, with feedback at around 70% and full reverb. Stereo spread is also at around 70%. This setting seems to be working for the sound I am trying to achieve. All the other knobs I am just turning to different positions until I liked the sound.

Enjoy!

Is there a similar patch for miRack? For Mac and iPad?

I just ran this in VCV Rack 2 for the first time, and it’s inspiring me, but I would love to get a similar patch going for miRack.

Hey guys, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been out of the game for a while, just installed VCV 2 finally… want to run my old patches in VCV 2, see how they work. @Ando, no idea about miRack..
