Midi Pupil

Midi Pupil will automatically record and play a sequence from the last 8 midi notes you feed into it, with selectable rhythmic playback. To change the notes in the sequence, simply play new ones.

—Front Panel—
Along the top is the Rhythum Sequencer for selecting the playback beat pattern in 16th notes. This will cycle through the 8 midi notes for every beat selected.

At the lower left is a red tempo indicator (as tapped or as fed from Midi Clock).

Just above this is the Jump Density control (pink). If set at 100%, one of the oscillators will jump up an octave with the tempo. Turn down for less frequent jumps.

Centered at the bottom is a blue bar to indicate the Auto Rhythum function.

Just above this is a Beat Density control (pink). Turn it up for more frequent beat triggers. Max will play every beat.

At the lower right is a Start/Stop indicator(green/red) and a push button to toggle the bass sequence (yellow).

—Footswitches—
Left: Tap tempo.

Middle: Randomizes the Rhythum Sequencer. The sequencer will still play the highlighted beats. Highlight none for a completely random pattern.

Right: Starts and stops the midi note cycle. (Notes played when stopped will not be recorded.)

—————————–
I have build a voice for this patch as a place holder, starting at the top of the page with a quantizer (surf). Output is from the VCA (yellow). Signal proceeds from here to the FX page.

Note values for the bass sequence need to be programmed individually on the “Bass Seq” page. To set the volume of the bass sequence, on page 9 there is a yellow VCA receiving the bass audio. Adjust the connection from this VCA to the white Output module in the upper right corner.

In case you don’t have a Midi device handy to feed Midi notes into Zoia, I put a 2 octave keyboard into the patch. Notes on the keyboard match the letters of the top row of buttons on Zoia’s face from A to A(H). Currently, you will need a TRS aux cable to connect the midi ports, with Zoia set to Midi “consume all”. I mean to integrate this keyboard internally eventually.
Below the keys are red and green buttons to move the keyboard up and down an octave at a time. The yellow value module between them will show the current pitch change (A0 = no change, -A2 = down 2 octaves).

I have had a lot of fun with this patch. Hope you enjoy!
