Loopler Soundscape Template

Create sliiiiightly glitchy ambient soundscapes by just recording a few loops.

It took me watching several youtube videos just to get started with loopler, let alone sorting out internal midi routing for mods. So I tried to build a ready-to-use template for instant ambient soundscapes with built-in mods.

FX (granular/delays) are routed AFTER the output of loopler. Granular has lfos modulating ‘size’ and ‘position” (I just do this on all my granulars for funsies). All the delay lines have lfos randomly modulating the rate to create pitch warbles.

Internal midi routing: The euclidean sequencer is driving octave jumping on “loop 0” and “loop 1”. When you open the patch all 4 channels of the euclidean seq are shut off. It’s best to record audio into your loops first and THEN turn on the seq, otherwise the triggers have a tendancy to get wonky.

Euc Seq Triggers:
channel 1 – “loop 0” half speed (octave down)
channel 2 – “loop 0” normal speed
channel 3 – “loop 1” half speed
channel 4 – “loop 1” normal speed

If for some reason the triggers get wonky you can reset them to that (or whatever you want obv). Just make sure you turn off all the channels except the one you want to assign. When assigning a midi trigger, it chooses the first trigger it receives after pushing the ‘midi’ icon. So you want to make sure it’s only receiving the signal you want it to (learned this the hard way several times).

An easy way to adjust the frequency of the octave jumps is just to play with the bpm of the lfo that’s driving the euc seq. Much more fine-tuning can happen inside the sequencer.

One thing I haven’t sorted out is the clicking sounds created by the octaves having a hard jump while audio is playing. As far as I’m aware there’s no way to slew/smooth the modulation.

I like to record varying length loops that cover a wide range of notes in a given scale and usually reverse a loop or two, then just let it run while noodling on top. The fx chain is not tied to the dry signal but you could easily feed input 1 and 2 into it. Just be mindful of doubling any dry signal into the wet/dry mixer. I have a dedicated verb pedal after beebo on my board so I generally don’t worry about working a verb into these patches.

I hope this provides a jumping off point for anyone who hasn’t tried the loopler. I’m really just scratching the surface myself but it’s a super fun and deep module that would be easy to miss bc it can feel overwhelming to learn.

Enjoy!
