Hoofing It (Simple Preset Series)

Instructional Preset. Preset to simulate a horse galloping, assuming you create a fingerboard or keyboard pattern to that effect. Uses a Kinetic bank fed with three types of pulsed noise (direct noise, “noise from seed” and Low Pass Filtered noise). Uses a SG-based “Pulse” and “Pulse at End” Kinetic excitation inputs to simulate a clop-clop gate. If ever there was a “one trick pony” preset, this is it! You can alter the sound of the gate a bit by changing some Kinetic controls. Remember you can always pull up the Kinetic Properties panel and tweak from there as well – though some parameters are programmed.

Instructions: No use of Y so won’t do anything in Osmose Aftertouch area. Tap a pattern to simulate a horse gallop, cantor, etc. and play with tone controls (basically what most of them are). Uses Polyphony = 4 as there are not too many 4+ footed horses around.

Macro Controllers:
i = Clop (Changes the attack and tone of the step – basically by changing Kinetic Spring Constant and speed of pulse together).

ii = Distance (Mutes things a bit by changing Kinetic Mass)

iii = TrotGate (Lengthens the time between the beginning and ending pulse to elongate the clop-clop effect).

iv = Ground (Changes the tone a bit to emulate a different terrain by changing Kinetic Viscosity

v = Weight (Changes the tone a bit to emulate a different weight by increasing the Cutoff and Bandwidth of the filtered noise component).

In truth, most of these controls are just tone controls that change things in slightly different and in some cases similar ways.

Surface:
X = General pitch of noise
Y = Not used
Z = Volume
