CthulhuScope

The hour was accursed when my television flared to life, though I had neither touched remote nor console. A lurid, flickering pall spread across the room—some alien phosphorescence that clung to the walls like mold from forgotten catacombs. The air thickened, pressing against my skin and thoughts alike, and beneath the silence I perceived a thrumming—a cadence beneath sound, as though the cosmos itself murmured in a tongue older than atoms.
Through the screen emerged visions of ruined cyclopean vaults, their architecture impossible and vile. Then He was there—Cthulhu—not rendered in pixels but manifested, each blink of His colossal gaze unmaking sanity. My knees buckled under terror ancient and abyssal.
And still the nightmare unfolded. A voice—sibilant, cruelly amused—slithered from the speakers. Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, congealed from the shadows, not one form but many, each more unholy than the last. He spoke truths that blistered my mind, etched into me with every syllable. I wept, not from fear, but from knowing.
The screen cracked—not shattered, split, like the cosmos birthing a wound. Through it poured a radiant madness: constellations writhing, the void pulsing like a living wound. At its heart: Yog-Sothoth. The key, the gate, the watcher of all that ever was and shall be. Its eyes—all eyes—fixed upon me. Not my body. My existence.
I screamed, but the sound echoed from a place deeper than lungs—from that silent, ancestral part of me that remembers the stars before they turned cold.
Sleep has since abandoned me. The screen remains dark. But I feel it watching, waiting. And I know it is only the beginning.

🧠 CthulhuScope Control Reference

An interactive mytho-visualizer for EYESY
🎛 Knob Controls (0.0 → 1.0)
Knob 1: Movement Amplitude / Chaos Intensity

Cthulhu – Controls sway and motion of tentacles. Higher = more dramatic, undulating movement.

Nyarlathotep – Drives chaotic tendril distortion and overall pulsing distortion.

Yog-Sothoth – Scales sphere radius and intensity of core eruptions.

Knob 2: Breathing Rate / Speed

Cthulhu – Adjusts the speed of the character’s rhythmic “breathing” pulse.

Nyarlathotep – Alters pulsing randomness and chaotic morphing speed.

Yog-Sothoth – Increases motion speed and spawn density of the spheres.

Knob 4: Color Dynamics

Cthulhu – Shifts hue of breath particles and glowing eyes.

Nyarlathotep – Alters hue of emitted chaos particles and aura.

Yog-Sothoth – Influences color shifting and iridescence of the orb field.

🎧 Audio Reactivity

Input: eyesy.audio_in (Left), eyesy.audio_in_r (Right)

All three characters use stereo amplitude and difference to influence:

Positional drift

Pulsing scale

Particle generation (bubbles, chaos shards, spheres)

Visual complexity and saturation

🔊 Audio-Reactive Behavior by Character

Cthulhu

Left audio channel sways the body horizontally

Boosts glow of eyes and tentacle tension

Audio peaks emit bubbles

Nyarlathotep

Sound distorts shape and emits chaos particles

Stereo difference opens its shifting maw

More volume = more chaos

Yog-Sothoth

Drives movement speed and color of spheres

Audio bursts cause new sphere formations

Higher energy = more spatial dissonance

🎯 Trigger Button (eyesy.trig)

True on button press or loud audio peak

Triggers one-time special effects or transitions:

Trigger Events

Cthulhu – Wakes the slumbering one: flashes eye, emits rapid bubbles, tentacle surge

Nyarlathotep – Initiates chaos state: opens maw, spawns a burst of entropy

Yog-Sothoth – Emits new orbital spheres in a reality-rending pulse

💡 Summary

Knobs = shaping

Audio = reactive vitality

Trigger = mythic intervention

Still reading this? I worked on this one for a few weeks. Anybody who says coding with AI is ‘easy’ hasn’t spent much time doing it. So, anyways… this is a continuation of my “text generator” theme. The engine in this is basically a further iteration of the ‘5 Words’ mode I made. There were so many ups and downs during the process of creating this I can hardly even begin but there were delightful surprises as well as schizophrenic AIs involved. Cthulhu, who started as a Kraken actually, was created seperately and then, with great care, I was able to cajole various AIs into repacking him as an external python code block that is imported, along with two other HPL characters from the Cthulhu Mythos, as character packs. These have the drawing info, animation parameters and custom behaviors all integrated in a modular format. You can edit the files and change the characters yourself, if you choose. You can also change the text phrases contained in arrays inside the main.py too if you desire. There’s even some extra fonts in the fonts folder you change the filename of in the code if you’d like a different look. But wait till my next release and you’ll understand why I suggest to hold off on that.

Ideally, I envision this mode being suitable for some Dungeon Synth band or artist’s live show video projection. In fact, if you do something with this, let me know! I hope you enjoy your visit with Cthulhu and the tiny, imaginary, text atrocities he summons. Fhtagn!
