Chordie

Chordie is a chord generator mode for 201 Pocket Piano. It is inspired by the accompaniment sections of Chord Organs, Optigans, and cheap Casio keyboards. Use it as a songwriting tool, harmonic accompaniment, or to send midi notes to external arpeggiators!

Here’s how to play Chordie:

Use the upper 8 keys (High C to High G) to choose which type of chord to play (Major, Minor, etc.)

The lower 12 keys (Low C to Middle B) decide the root note of the chord and play it.

By default, the 8 types of chords are (in order) Major (C Key), Major 6th (C#/Db Key), Dominant 7th (D Key), Major 7th (D#/Eb Key), Minor (E Key), Minor 6th (F Key), Minor 7th (F#/Gb Key), and Minor #7th (G Key). Not quite your style? Don’t fret! Each chord may be edited in the text file chord-list.txt, which can be found in the pattern folder.

HARK TRAVELLER! THIS IS IMPORTANT!

Chordie is a pattern mode, meaning it must be loaded into a pattern slot! Also, because of how the patch is currently coded, CHORDIE MUST BE LOADED INTO PATTERN SLOT 2. Putting it into a different slot will require editing the patch.

Lastly, Chordie will not generate chords based on notes received via midi. Any note information received from the sequencer, TRS or USB ports will be passed through it. Latch mode and transposition settings are applied both to notes generated by Chordie and to external midi input.

Chordie uses elements of the Critter & Guitari 201 patch ChordGenerator.

PATCH NOTES:
0.2: tweaked key behavior; now chord changes are only applied when root key is pressed. stock chords are simpler.
