An endlessly rising or falling sample rate reducer into a reverb.

After making “Three Shepards” – a barberpole MIDI synth – I wanted to try some more infinite rising or falling effects; this one does barberpole aliasing, a rising (or falling) sample rate reduction, pushed into a plate reverb. This ended up in similar territory as my “Abyss” patch.
It has an envelope follower that increases the fall (or rise) rate. I like it best at full wet reverb and very slow rates, to give the impression of an endlessly descending or ascending pitch modulation effect. It’s quite unique. Not for everything, but great for slow ambient pads, and weird enough to publish. I also added a ‘stationary mode’, which basically turns it into a variation on the “bit crushed reverb” (like Dark Star or the one from AC Noises), but different sounding because the Aliaser comes before the reverb tail. And all in glorious full stereo of course.

[OVERVIEW]
-Input/Output: Stereo in/Stereo out (or Mono in/Stereo out)
-CPU load: Around 70%
-Build: Initial version built with firmware 2.80
-MIDI: I always use channel 10 and if controls are set to CC’s I use CC channels 21/36 (see CONTROLS section for details).
-CV Inputs: Unused.
-CV Outputs: Unused.

[REVISIONS]
1.0: Initial patch.

[CONTROLS]
Most controls are on the “UI” page and are labeled (see below for a “Picture Manual” in the comments).
The Stereo Output module with gain parameter is on the “IO” page, along with the toggle buttons for LOW/MID/HIGH depth between the Aliasers or STATIONARY for ‘traditional’ bit-crushed verb.

MIX (sets the dry/wet balance)
CENTER FREQ (sets the overall sample rate frequency)
REVERB (macro control for reverb mix and decay; after 50% the verb is fully wet and only the decay time increases further)

RATE (sets the minimum modulation rate; keep at or close to 0 if you’re using ENV follower)
ENV ON (toggles the envelope follower modulation on/off)
ENV DEPTH (sets how much RATE is affected by the envelope follower)
UP/DOWN (toggles ascending or descending effect)
INFINITE (toggles the infinite decay of the reverb; input isn’t cut so you can keep piling up sounds)

ZEBU LEFT button / ZOIA LEFT stomp = BYPASS (toggles effect on/off)
ZEBU RIGHT button / ZOIA RIGHT stomp = INFINITE (see above)
ZOIA MID stomp = Unused.

[PATCH STRUCTURE]
I’m using two Panner modules to route the L/R input signals either dry through to the output, or into the effects section. The Panners are set to Equal Power (so the dry mix doesn’t drop off significantly until the MIX is turned up higher). The ‘wet’ section consists of 3 Aliaser modules each going into their own VCA.
The VCAs and Aliaser frequencies are modulated by 3 LFOs, all synced and running at the same rate, but the 2nd and 3rd are offset by 120 and 240 degrees. This way, the Aliaser modules fade in and out one at a time, overlapping as they go, giving the impression of an infinitely rising or falling effect.

There is also an envelope follower that can modulate the RATE of the LFOs, so that it only moves with signal input. It’s more subtle this way, which is good for Barberpole-type effects.
Finally, the wet side goes into a reverb lite, which can be frozen into infinite decay.

=====

[TIPS/TRICKS]
>>> I like this effect best with about 50% mix, the RATE near minimum but the ENV enabled to give a subtle motion with signal input.

>>> Play with the FREEZE button while playing; as the Aliasers still move while the output reverb is infinite, you get very nice movement in the drone.

[THOUGHTS/IDEAS/PLANS]
This patch is done, no future plans.

If there’s any bugs/questions/remarks/requests or suggestions for improvement, please let me know!
Enjoy!
