BPM Controller

This patch is made to dial in a Square Wave LFO’s BPM using stomp switches, and displaying the set tempo numerically in an easy to read manner.

The RIGHT Stomp switch cycles the “Ones Column”

The MIDDLE Stomp Switch cycles the “Tens Column”

The LEFT Stomp Switch engages/disengages the Midi Clock Out.

Also on the Front Page (2nd column)

– The MANGO VALUE MODULE (top) sets the intensity of the visual pulse of the Display set to the current tempo

– The GREEN LFO (middle) functions as the primary clock*.

– The RED PIXEL (bottom) indicates whether the MIDI Clock Out is engaged or not

*note – move the module to connect & send the LFO Output

I made this patch on a whim really. I plan on picking up a midi interface, but until then I don’t have the means of sending the MIDI Clock out from my ZOIA into my DAW without messing with my pedal board and disconnecting my Midi Controller.

When tracking tempo based effects, I’ve been matching tempos in recordings by adjusting the LFO rates manually within the modules.

With that in mind, I wanted to see if I could make a patch that visually displays the current tempo, and can be adjusted without having to reach down to my pedal board.

This was the result.

Further, I had been running into some issues of the Zoia’s Clock falling out of Sync with my DAWs clock. I used a bit of math to dial in the LFO as accurately as possible. This accounts for the high DSP usage. I forget the process I used as a whole, but I know I had to determine what one Hz is equivalent to within the Tap to CV module. It worked out to .004166.. In theory, this LFO should be more in line with the precision of my interfaces internal clock.

Anyway,

If the ability to dial in a specific tempo using foot switches sounds like something you could make use of, or you’re looking for a more precise LFO driven Clock Source…

Check these out!

..Cheers!
