BOOCLAH- Init.

Jamuary 2024; day 1, 15, & 20.

Here is your one-stop patch to mess around with a modular synth workflow inspired by the magic machines of Buchla Inc! Within this patch are “simple” Buchla system modules recreated for the ZOIA platform, virtually unpatched with the exception of the main audio routing.

Here is some information detailing the pages:

Page 0- B
This is a simple visualizer, in which the audio signal determines the brightness of the letter B.

Page 1- 258 osc.
Here we find the 258 dual oscillator! Each section contains two FM oscillators (sine and saw/square), each running into an audio balance to blend between the two waveforms. The green value module sets the oscillator frequencies in tandem to make sure they are in tune. The purple VCA module allows one audio source to impact both waveforms equally, and controls the amplitude of the modulating signal.

Page 2- 281 fun.
This is the 281 quad function generator! You will see four attack/decay envelopes in red, each one with a comparator to make an end-of-function gate (this gets turned into a trigger on the next page). You can trigger these envelopes individually by pressing any of the four orange pushbuttons, and you can loop the envelopes individually by pressing any of the four yellow pushbuttons.

Page 3- fun. Pls-Loop
Not much on this page, just the end-of-function trigger outputs as well as looping envelope logic for each envelope generator.

Page 4- 292 lpg.
Here are half of the 292 low-pass gates (one for each oscillator). Each audio path consists of a filter running into a VCA. You can control both of these simultaneously either by adding CV to the green value module input, or a trigger to the red slew module input to replicate that vactrol decay.

Page 5- 266 SOU
The famous 266 source of uncertainty is a hard one to replicate, but I did my best with my current knowledge of ZOIA! The top row consists of a noise source, and a band-pass filter to get different colors of noise. Below that are two random-LFO fluctuating voltages that are slewed. Then there are two trigger-activated random modules, one of which has a step quantizer.

Page 6- SOU s-h
This is my FAVORITE part of this ZOIA patch in general! Here you find the source of uncertainty’s sample and hold section, complete with its alternate trigger and S&H outputs. To hopefully make it easier to see what is where, I’ve used labeled value modules across the top to patch the S&H from. Below you’ll find the alternate trigger outputs in the red out switch module, as well as the alternate S&H outputs in the blue S&H modules. This page also has a peach pushbutton to reset the flip-flop if needed, or to just manually sample voltage.

Page 7- out.
This is where all the audio goes. The outputs from the low-pass gates get sent to an audio mixer to set gain and pan the channels, and some extra plate reverb gives the whole patch some space. It also has the envelope follower for the visualizer on the first page.

There are a lot of moving parts to this patch as a whole! I expect there will be questions, and you are more than welcome to ask away! I will try to get to everything.

Again, nothing except the basic audio path is pre-patched in! This patch is for you to explore and make something interesting.

Happy patching!

Do whatever you want with it, but it'd be cool if you shared with me what you do if anything!
