A literal Battle of the Bands! Ramones versus Sex Pistols in an audio-powered armored conflict!
This is still a bit of a work in progress and I can’t assure you 100% that it might not occasionally hang up your Eyesy requiring a hard reset. This only seems to happen with a lot of trees (knob 5 turned all the way up) so just try to avoid that.
Turn-based battletank action is driven by the audio levels. Movement direction is randomly chosen with some terrain rules for water and trees. Firing is triggered at the end of the movement phase. Expect a lot of tree carnage. The war is over when the HQ is hit a couple of times or all tanks are destroyed on a side. Score is displayed in the corners. Hitting trigger button should also give the game a little prod during quiet moments. Each tank has 5 hitpoints before it’s destroyed and replaced with a smoking crater. And the tanks all “bop” to the beat.
I was working this (with the generous assistance of ChatGPT et al) over the summer along with another naval warfare companion involving Navy versus Pirates (not to mention the Kraken and Cyclones). The terrain is generated by an extension of the perlin noise I was using for my Camoufl4ge Eyesy visualization. It’s based on a game my schoolmates and I used to play between classes that involved drawing tank armies on a sheet of paper and using the point of a pencil to “shoot” your opponent’s tanks and bases. I spent a ridiculous amount of time working on the tank treadmarks. Not to mention some rather insane experiences with AI hallucinations, lying and gas-lighting. But that’s a whole other story.
There’s also a lot of radio chatter and events that you can view in the Eyesy editor console or with my “Enhanced Eyesy Console+”. The latter is best if you’d like to watch the battle play out live.
I was going to work on this more but I got more into working on the Naval Warfare version of this so hopefully I’ll put that out soon.
Controls:
Knob 1: nothing at this time
Knob 2: number of tanks on each side (max 10, this restarts the game when changed)
Knob 3: map resolution (this also will reset the game when changed, also chooses a random seasonal palette)
Knob 4: Color/Black and white toggle
Knob 4: tree density
UPDATE: I neglected to include the custom font folder and font file. That is now fixed.
