Akai APC40 MK2 Controller

This is a PatchMaster interface designer for control with the Akai APC Mk II MIDI controller. It has most of the buttons and knobs on the device.

I’m considering doing a video explaining my setup.
Meanwhile, below are some tips and information about this setup. I’m also including them on the Notes module on the patch.

You may find this Three Way Switch patch useful to connect buttons from the patch to certain parameters: https://patchstorage.com/three-way-switch-4-of-them/

Modules:
MindMeld PatchMaster
stoermelder MIDI-CAT

Optional Modules:
stoermelder MIDI-MON (for monitoring MIDI messages when assigning controls or connecting the controller)
Stochastic Telegraph Fermata (Notes Module for tips and info)

– The buttons on the grid on the left side (A1,B2,etc) are “Momentary with toggled light”. I find this is the best setting to connect with most modules and parameters.

– The Master fader Map 1 range goes from 0% to 91,6%. This way, if you connect it to the equivalent control on the MindMeld Mixer, when you have the controller at the 0dB position, it’s also near 0dB on the mixer. Other faders default to 0-100% and I change the values for every project, making 0dB on the mixer be equivalent to almost the max volume I’ll need on each one. (For ex. 1 instrument may be at max -6db and this way I know that if I hit 0dB on the controller I’m hitting -6dB on the Mixer. I use stoermelder GLUE to make post its with each track’s name on the mixer and as reference for the fader position when I adjust the mapping)

– Most controls are assigned to the MIDI Channel 1. However, on the “0x40 Generic (Startup Default)” mode of the controller (one of 3 modes, google for more information), when pressing the buttons below each number from 1 to 8, the knobs on the Device Control section on the right send information through different channels. So, if you select 2, the light turns on and those controllers send signals to Channel 2. If you select 8, it sends controls through channel 8. If you select Master, it sends them through ch. 9. That’s why I have so many MIDI-Cats. You can have 9 uses for those 8 knobs. If you move knobs on the PatchMaster, you will see the LED’S reflect the value changing on your controller.

– Some parameters make the CPU go wayyy up if you send the signal back to the MIDI controller. That’s why the MIDI-CAT on the right is not configured to send controller feedback.

– The four PatchMaster modules for the directions controls and A/B fader are not as useful as the knobs on the right, so I’ve been putting those 4 modules on the right and putting the knobs below the knobs on the upper row.
