AD-220 Delay + Flange

Insert Mode Program – Series Routing (default). Programmed with stereo use in mind, but effectively mono delays or multi-flanger throughout.

My first rack effect (and one that I’ll never get rid of). Approaching 50 years now since it was built, and it is still going strong. Two Mod Delay instances in series, in a humble attempt to replicate that luscious stack of MN3004 electrons.

The Ibanez original switches through 3 different ranges; decreasing the frequency response with longer delay times. The AD-220 model relegated the Multi-Flanger to a separate mode. This Program loads up with the longest, darkest range. Fine-tune the Delay times and Mod Speeds to suit your application:

* The [P] HotKnob adjusts both Mod Speeds upwardly over the programmed range of rates.
* The [A] HotKnob adjusts both Preset [A] Delay times downwardly, over the original AD-220 ranges.
* The [B] HotKnob adjusts both Preset [B] delay times downwardly, over the original AD-220 ranges.

EXP1 increases all Feedback levels in the 3 delay ranges, from a few repeats, to short of oscillation (like the original). If desired, increase the top end of travel to 100-110. The expression pedal also decreases the Mod Depth and Feedback (regeneration) on the 4th Multi-Flanger mode.

Delay Mix parameters are used for switching between modes of operation. The various Delay ranges / flanger are accessed with the HotSwitches in PERFORM:

* Default – 500 mS range.
* HS1 -150 mS range.
* HS2 – 75 mS range.
* HS3 – Multi-Flanger.

There are also options to momentarily “freeze” the delay buffers in the active Preset [A or B]. See the Program Notes for more complete information on the PERFORM switch mappings.

    Thanks, Brock! The AD-202 (close) was my 2nd rack and sadly sold it years ago. Looking forward to coming full circle back to the murky and hifi Ibanez analog delays.

    Funny anecdote, but at one point, I felt I was missing out by NOT buying the AD-202 instead (until I learned electronics). Another great unit, with a special something (and the signal flow printed on top!). I think I’ll try modifying this Program to emulate the ranges and character of an AD-202.
