This patch has three purposes:
– To construct a much longer sequence from short sequences.
This is achieved by having sequences of different lengths, so that it takes a long time for a repetition to begin.
– To use sequences to model parameters.
– To generate CV values belonging to a specific scale from the CV values provided by the VOXGLICH sequencer.
Any quantizer can do this, but then different CV values from the sequencer may produce the same note.
The script of the BasiCally module combines four of the sequences provided by the VOXGLICH sequencer in different ways and passes the result on as a polyphonic signal. The CV channels are assigned as follows:
1-4 Passing through the sequences
5 Sum of sequences 1-2
6 Sum of sequences 1-3
7 Sum of sequences 1-4
9 Maximum of sequence 1-2
10 Maximum of sequence 1-3
11 Maximum of sequence 1-4
13 Minimum of sequence 1-2
14 Minimum of sequence 1-3
15 Minimum of sequence 1-4
For channels 1-4, the CV value is scaled to -5…5 V. These values can be used to modulate parameters.
For the other channels, the value provided by the VOXGLICH sequencer is not considered as a note, but rather an index of the pitch scale.
A higher step in VOXGLICH therefore does not mean a pitch higher (C4->C#4), but rather a pitch higher in the scale (C4->D#4 for pentatonic minor).
This creates well-defined tones, and every change in VOXGLICH also results in a change in tone (which isn’t the case with a simple quantizer).
The gate signals are always generated in the same way: If gate is set in one input sequence, it will be set in all output channels.
