Insert Mode Program – Series Routing – Program MIX 100%. Sculpt into HarPeggiator. [Can be used in Parallel routing, to separate Drive filters from random filters.] Programmed for stereo use.
An emulation of a rare mid-70s pedal designed by Tom Oberheim. Slide-switchable between a lowpass envelope filter, with a Range knob, and a sample & hold filter, with Speed control. Default Program is in ENV mode. NOTE: These filters react nicely to guitar volume control adjustments, along with your picking dynamics.
Arguably, a unit with a higher frequency emphasis, and cleaner than a Mutron III, at equivalent settings. Mine’s in dire need of a re-cap, so this ’emulation’ is slightly on the dirtier side. (2) 9V batteries not included.
All three HotKnobs are pre-programmed for making fine adjustments to several of the effects. Customize the sound, using these variations:
* [P] HotKnob (+/-) – adjusts Sculpt Mix + Low & High Drive, with Program Out Gain compensation. [default = 15]
* [A] HotKnob (+/-) – adjusts Sculpt X-Over frequency. [default = 40 = 800 Hz.].
* [B] HotKnob (CW) – adds Harpeggiator Rhythms A & B – 1 thru 20 + RND. [default = 0].
EXP1 sweeps Sculpt Filter Pre & Post values downward, for a ‘reverse wah’ effect overlay on the envelope filter. It also drops the HarPeggiator Length (2X speed), with a +5 to -5 Dynamics range.
Other options include momentary or latching versions of S&H only, with boosted Drive, ENV filter into S&H filter, or funky sequencing of all HarPeggiator FX. See the Program Notes for more information on PERFORM switch mappings.

Is this also an attempt to recreate an effect that Zappa used? His Song Ship ahoy features a crazy filter section and there is also a bubbling section in Black Napkins (from the amazing Zoot Allures Album).
Zappa was rumored to use this pedal (or something quite similar), but I didn’t target this Program as such. I do have a physical Oberheim VCF-200 here. This Program was intended to cover that feature set, and I added a few enhancements of my own.
I didn’t want to spend the whole day on this, but just after fooling around with it for five minutes I got to this sound which really brings you close to the famous Zappa Ship Ahoy Sound.
So thank you very much for this amazing preset!

I can’t ask for better. My whole mindset with uploading Programs here is to make the base sound useful, then cram a whole lot of options in them for end users to customize to their specific needs. I’m glad you found this one useful.
You did a great job on this one!!! First I was rushing over it. And I did not realize that I have to activate the arpeggiator ;-), but then – what a pleasure. Maybe if I want to get closer to the ship ahoy/black napkins bubbling filter I will spend some more time with the options you offer with this program, but I am not such a great tweaker and there is the danger to get completely lost. This already really nice the way I tweaked it after five minutes. I am still struggling though with Zappas Clean Sound like in Any kind of pain. Any suggestions from your side would be more than welcome.
Yo mr brock, I tried to mess with mixes but the harpeggiator always passes some clean signal, is that normal? I also tried to turn off the envelope filter but still I hear the fundamental note
Wow, this is an old one. Let me revisit this Program and see what may be happening there. I did have less of a firm grasp on H90 programming nuances back then.
First glance, I see the text body stating Program Mix 100%. In contrast to the screenshot at 92%, which is something I’ll do at times to ‘leak through’ a touch of pick attack.
yea I tried to play with that but there’s still clean signal passing
