PingPongInn

Mono-to-Stereo with tempo-synced panning patterns. Can mess with your head a little bit!

Version History:
2.0 – Initial Patch Release. Feb 9 2023
1.0 – PingPongInn Restaurant. Early 1970s, Staten Island.

WHAT IS THIS PATCH?

A stereo-panner that can be utilitarian or fancy or both. Takes a monophonic input (left channel) and applies to both right and left outputs with different patterns. The separation of the panning signals is great for recording in the studio (utility) or allows you to run each signal through their own effects (fun) or adds a sound sculpting effect to your drone set up (utility and fun).

This patch also has MIDI capabilities.

HOW DO I USE THIS PATCH?

This patch consists of 4 knob functions to control tempo, note subdivision and length, and wet/dry signals (Stereo Blend). The ‘Aux Menu’ variables toggle between trigger modes, envelope shapes, pan patterns and low pass filter for bypassing bass frequencies (great for using PingPongInn on entire tracks).

A typical use case would be:

1. Connect an audio source or sound-making device to your Organelle.
2. Set tempo, note subdivision, note length, and Stereo Blend.
3. Test panning settings using Organelle keys in Manual Trigger mode.
4. Switch from Manual Trigger to Auto trigger in ‘Aux Menu.’
5. Adjust Stereo Blend to balance wet/dry signal of auto panning pattern.
6. Change up pan pattern, envelope, and low pass filter in ‘Aux Menu.’
7. Continue making adjustments as desired.

To do most of the steps above you will need to use the ‘Aux Menu’. The Aux Button controls the ‘Aux Menu’. When you press Aux for 0.2 seconds, a new menu is displayed on OLED Screen for as long as you hold Aux. To select an Aux Menu command/Page, use the Top Row of Organelle keys. The Low C# key selects Top command. The Low A# Key selects the bottom command.

Aux Menu Guide:

The following commands are available in the Aux Menu:

Manual Trigger/Auto: Toggles between Manual trigger and auto trigger modes. In Auto mode, panning pattern selected in the Aux menu runs automatically, whereas in Manual trigger, any of the 24 Organelle keys act as a trigger for varied panning accents or events.

Envelope: Cosine / Square / Attack / Rewind: Selects envelope shape.

Pattern: Ping-Pong / Paradiddle / Bounce / Bounce<<: Toggles between panning patterns. Panning behaviors include:

1. Ping-Pong: left right
2. Paradiddle: right left right right left right left left
3. Bounce: varying rate position
4. Bounce<<: varying rate position but in reverse

Low Pass: On/Off: Turns low pass filter On or Off. If On, lower frequencies will not be panned (but will still be heard in the Stereo Blend.

__The Bottom Row of keys do not apply to the Aux Menu of this patch.__

The following functions are controlled by the knobs:

Knob1: Tempo. Range: 20 BPM – 320 BPM
Knob2: Note – sets frequency of pan as a function of note subdivision. Range: 16th – 4_Whole notes.
Knob3: Length – sets pan length for each note: 0% – 100%
Knob4: Stereo Blend – essentially a Wet/Dry blend, 0% is all effect, no dry signal, and 100% is the dry signal with no wet signal.

If you like a setting, don’t forget to ‘Save’ in the Storage menu. The Organelle may make a buzzing sound, but this is normal.
