A looper patch that lets you “play” the pitch of the loop melodically via MIDI note info.
MIDI note C3 represents the “original” pitch of the looper/pitch shifter/granular module.
IMPORTANT NOTE #1: There are two forms of melodic manipulation in this patch: “Vari-Speed” and “Repitching.” Vari-Speed affects the looper pitch parameter directly, and is OFF by default. To enable it:
– go to page 1, second row from bottom, fourth column from right (see the image for details)
– switch from “ch 2 sel” to “ch 1 sel” to enable Vari-Speed.
The pitch of the loop will probably be really weird if you haven’t already sent a MIDI note when you do this. (Again, C3 is the original pitch.)
IMPORTANT NOTE #2: “Repitching” affects the pitch of the Pitch Shifter and Granular modules. These are “always on” (i.e. always receiving MIDI note data), but are not heard by default.
To hear them:
– go the the mixer page (page 3)
– the mixer channels are:
1) live input instrument output level
2) looper module output level
3) pitch shifter output level
4) granular module output level
There are pan controls for each channel’s output, so you can place the dry/looper/pitch shifter/granular outputs in different parts of the stereo spectrum.
IMPORTANT NOTE #3: Doing Vari-Speed and Repitching simultaneously will create Really Weird Stuff. This is because Vari-Speed applies pitch manipulation directly to the looper module’s speed parameter. Repitching takes the dry, unaltered loop signal, and then applies pitch manipulation to *that.*
So, if you play note D3 (two semitones above the original pitch), the looper module itself will output the loop two semitones higher. However, the Pitch Shifter and Granular modules will be “hearing” that two-semitone-higher signal, and then applying ANOTHER two semitones on top of THAT.
“Compounding” or “stacking” the transpositions in this way can sound great, and/or awful, and or any number of other qualifiers. Please use with caution.
