late 90’s comedown

an homage to those late-night late 90s after<after party comedowns (you know, when the drugs start wearing off). mainly this sketch served as a means for me to really learn polyphony, seq++ and stoermedler’s transit.

a few notes gathered from my experimentations while fumbling about creating this patch:

1 – transit is amazing. it's "bind single parameter" feature, which lets you control various knobs from across a patch is uber powerful (certainly it's cheating from "purist" modular patching, but who cares. it's all about how the thing sounds in the end anyway). i recommend a sample+hold to randomly control the stored presets of transit (note you have to right click and set transit to use 0-10v).

2 – the bias/semitone module by little utilities is great coupled with transit. you can do some nice polyphonic octave or semitone pitch shifting – at random w that sample/hold controlling transit.

3 – squinky labs' seq++ module is an interesting polyphonic piano roll sequencer (cuz you can only get so far with all those atypical arp and 16 step sequencer sounds). very useful albeit a bit primitive and tricky to work with (i read he based this off some old 80’s dos sequencer, which is kind of neato). anyway, it’s free and it records notes from a midi keyboard so can’t complain.

4 – reverbs can be such cpu hogs but surge reverb is the most cpu-light and still decent sounding w a lot of features (did a full reverb comparison along the way). also the STKpitchshifter by nysthi is also super cpu-lightweight and sounds decent (although it might crackle a bit w a lot of bass running through it and the pitch cv modulated, i need to do more experiments w this module)

5 – nysthi's 1hp micro slew module works great with the gates of elsker to "auto-fade" the cv of the mixer knobs.

6 – surge's patch player module has a ton of really great synth samples! cuz you can only get so far with just subtractive or fm sounds… especially for that cheesy 90s sound ;)

feel free to use any part of this patch (or all of it) as part of your own creative adventures.
