VCV Rack #64 Idea for reducing clicks in Complex Simpler

In this video I would like to present an idea how to get click noises out of the recordings in the Complex Simpler. You can hear the click noises better if you use low frequencies like in my example. I suspect that they appear if the frequency at the beginning of the loop does not end at the same place as at the end of the loop, then there is a slight jump, which causes the click noise. The easiest way to see it is on a sine wave. In Complex Simpler, if the end bar does not end at the same point in the curve, you will hear a click. With more complex frequencies I think it gets harder to find a common point in the frequency with the start and end controls.

My thought was to simply turn down the volume before starting the recording and before ending it. That way the frequency would be 0 at the beginning and end and there would be no click noise. I tried to automate this process in the video. I think my solution is a bit oversized and error-prone, because the switch and transit must have a defined state before the trigger cable is connected to the Complex Simpler, otherwise it won’t work. Also the recording seems to be stopped before the volume is completely at 0. Maybe there is a better solution :)

By the way, there is also an Anti Click control on the Complex Simpler, but I haven’t figured out how to use it correctly.

I have seen Omri using the ‘anti click’ control on one of his videos for the Complex Simpler, so I know that works! Just a matter of turning until the click has gone, as far as I remember!
Experimentation is the only way sometimes.

Thanks, I thought that the function behind this controller is not implemented yet. Good to know that it usually does something. I’ve seen that the knob in Omri’s videos has a different position every now and then, but I’ve never been able to see him turn it. I just experimented a little bit with Simpliciter. There is a Sound on Sound VCA control next to the REC button. With it the clicks seem also to disappear from the LLFO recording in the video when you turn the knob to the right.
