DAFT PUNK - Cardinal patch
==========================================

Keep everything in this same folder together (do not separate the files):
  - Daft Punk.vcv
  - assets\ (samples + VST)
  - Launch Cardinal.bat (Windows)
  - Launch Cardinal (macOS).command
  - Launch Cardinal (Linux).sh
  - this file

COMPATIBILITY - CARDINAL VS. STANDALONE VCV RACK
--------------------------------------------------
This patch is built and tested for Cardinal (CardinalNative), the
standalone build of VCV Rack that bundles its own module collection and
its own Carla-based VST-hosting engine. Cardinal is the recommended,
and only fully-tested, way to open this patch.

It can also be opened in standalone VCV Rack if you already have it
installed, but expect some modules to appear as missing or
non-functional there - in particular anything Cardinal bundles
internally rather than installs as a normal VCV Library plugin, or
anything that depends on Cardinal's built-in Carla engine (such as the
"Ildaeil" VST-hosting modules used here). We can't guarantee an exact
list of what would be affected in standalone VCV Rack, so if you try
this route, treat it as "try it and see" rather than a supported path.

1) OPENING THE PATCH
---------------------
Preferably double-click the launcher script for your operating system
instead of the .vcv file directly:
  - Windows : "Launch Cardinal.bat"
  - macOS : "Launch Cardinal (macOS).command"
  - Linux : "Launch Cardinal (Linux).sh"

The script sets the correct working directory before starting Cardinal,
which lets the sample's relative paths load automatically, and it also
sets up the VST plugin search path (see point 3).

macOS / Linux only: the first time, you may need to make the script
executable before double-clicking it works. In a terminal, run:
  chmod +x "Launch Cardinal (macOS).command"
or
  chmod +x "Launch Cardinal (Linux).sh"
(this permission is lost when files are shared from a Windows machine).

If Cardinal opens without the patch loaded, open it manually via
File > Open (the working directory set by the script stays correct
either way).

No separate installation of Carla is required - Cardinal already
includes the plugin-hosting engine it needs.

NOTE - VST plugins on macOS / Linux: GMulti and GClip (the 2 VST
plugins used by the "Ildaeil" modules, see point 3) are bundled for
Windows, macOS and Linux (see "assets\vst\<your OS>\"). When you launch
via the provided launcher script, the correct binaries for your OS are
found automatically and the 2 Ildaeil modules should load exactly like
on Windows. If you still see "plugin not found", see point 3 for the
manual setup options. The rest of the patch, including all 5 Groovebox
samples, also works identically on every OS.

2) IF THE 5 SAMPLES IN THE "GROOVEBOX" MODULE DON'T LOAD
-----------------------------------------------------------
This can happen without it being an error: this module cannot resolve a
file path relative to the patch's own location on its own. If needed,
just reload them once, manually:

For each of the 5 affected slots:
  - Double-click the filename shown on the track
(or: right-click the filename > "Load Sample")
  - Browse to the "assets\samples\" folder
  - Select the matching file:
      808-Kicks09.wav
      808-Snare24.wav
      808-Clap10.wav
      808-HiHats17.wav
      Kick 1.wav

Once reloaded, Cardinal remembers the new location for the next time you
open this patch on this machine.

3) THE 2 VST PLUGINS (GMulti, GClip - "Ildaeil" modules)
-----------------------------------------------------------
These 2 plugins are bundled for all 3 platforms:
  - Windows : assets\vst\Windows\ (GMulti.dll, GClip.dll)
  - macOS : assets\vst\Mac\ (GMulti.vst, GClip.vst bundles)
  - Linux : assets\vst\Linux\ (GMulti.so, GClip.so)

You do not need to download or install anything separately - Carla
(the engine built into Cardinal that hosts these VST plugins) looks up
plugins by filename in a few known locations, and the launcher script
already points it at the correct folder for your OS.

If you launch via the launcher script for your OS ("Launch
Cardinal.bat", "Launch Cardinal (macOS).command" or "Launch Cardinal
(Linux).sh"): nothing to do, the script automatically sets the
VST_PATH environment variable to the matching "assets\vst\<OS>\"
folder before starting Cardinal.

If you open Cardinal another way (not through the launcher script), do
one of the following, for your OS:

  WINDOWS
    Option A (simplest):
Copy the 2 .dll files from "assets\vst\Windows\" into:
        C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2\
      (may require administrator rights)

Option B (no admin rights needed, more reliable):
Set a VST_PATH environment variable yourself, pointing to the
      "assets\vst\Windows\" folder, before launching Cardinal.

  macOS
    Option A (simplest):
Copy the 2 .vst bundles from "assets/vst/Mac/" into either:
        ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/ (current user only)
      or
        /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/ (all users, may require
                                                 administrator rights)

Option B (no admin rights needed, more reliable):
Set a VST_PATH environment variable yourself, pointing to the
      "assets/vst/Mac/" folder, before launching Cardinal.

  LINUX
Option A (simplest, but paths vary by distribution):
Copy the 2 .so files from "assets/vst/Linux/" into either:
        ~/.vst/ (current user only)
      or
        /usr/lib/lxvst/ or /usr/lib/vst/ (system-wide, distro-
                                                   dependent - may
                                                   require root)
Note: unlike Windows/macOS, there is no single official VST2
folder convention on Linux; the exact system-wide path depends
on your distribution and its packaging conventions. If Option A
doesn't work, use Option B below instead.

Option B (no admin/root rights needed, more reliable):
Set a VST_PATH environment variable yourself, pointing to the
      "assets/vst/Linux/" folder, before launching Cardinal.

Reinstalling the plugins from scratch: these plugins are already
bundled in "assets\vst\<your OS>\" - you do not need to download them
again. But if you ever need to fetch them independently (e.g. a newer
version, or a different OS/format than what's bundled here), they are
free downloads from the developer, GVST:
  - GMulti : https://gvst.uk/Downloads/GMulti/Select
  - GClip : https://gvst.uk/Downloads/GClip/Select
See assets\vst\GVSTLicense.txt for the GVST plugin license.

If Cardinal still shows the Ildaeil module as "plugin not found" despite
this, reopen its built-in plugin browser and manually reselect
GMulti / GClip (the parameter values saved in the patch will be
reapplied automatically once the correct binary is found).
