Midnight Modes

I wanted a patch to explore modes.

The grandfather clock sound is always a perfect fifth, with the low tone being the root of the mode we are playing (which is determined by the ‘noteSeq’ in the lower left corner).

The lead is run through a quantizer, so you know it always has naturals… all modes are using the same notes in the 3 octave range. The lead plays the modes root and 5th, with other scale notes between them, as determined by the LFO and S&H modules, so I could get a continous rising and falling effect.

The LFO rises and falls over the octave above and below, so it keeps crossing zero. This zero point is adjusted to also match the root of the mode, before being sent to the quantizer.
